AS with most weddings, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s ceremony was attended by those of taste and those who can only be described as walking fashion disasters (you know who I’m talking about).

The big day was just a fortnight ago but retailers in Northamptonshire and elsewhere have already been reporting signs of big changes in wedding fashion, believed to be as a consequence of Kate and William’ bridal flower girl ;s popularity.

To give an example, just days after the wedding a certain perfume named White Gardenia Petals by Illuminum went from being a little known brand to one of the most sought-after scents on the market.

And the reason why this bottled magic is reported to now have a waiting list? The newly royal Catherine is said to have worn it on her wedding day.

Magazines have been full of tips on how to achieve a figure like the much drooled after Pippa Middleton, and even the Queen in her sunny, yellow outfit caught admiring glances wedding dress factory , although probably from a different section of the population.

The Chron tracked down some experts in Northamptonshire to find out what impact the Royal Wedding had for wedding fashions around the county.

Flowers

FOR Northampton florist Helen Senogles, the impact of the Royal Wedding on flower - and tree - fashions has been obvious.

It seems that the tree-lined aisle at Westminster Abbey has caught the imaginations of other brides-to-be in the county.

Helen, who runs the White Petal Workshop at A Most Marvellous Place to Shop in Abington Square, said: “A week after the Royal Wedding someone decided to go for some trees in the orangery where she is getting married.

“I can see that becoming popular, as well as the smaller bouquet. Her bouquet was so gentle and delicate, that will definitely be a trend.”

Although, according to Helen, Catherine’s choice of Lily of the valley is one of the most expensive flowers, the option of a smaller bouquet could prove popular as a more frugal choice.

Helen continued: “ wedding dresses romantic Trees are a choice to make a little bit more of an impact. My customer will be hiring trees from me so it will save money and be an ecologically sound thing to do as well. It is no surprise that people have decided to go for that and I suspect there will be more from now on.

“We are thinking about magnolias or perhaps bay trees, but I will have to do some more research.”

Dresses

Ambitious designer Lizzi Kiziak of the Wedding Wardrobe in Guildhall Road wholesale bridal gown , Northampton, has thrown herself into a challenging project to create two dresses echoing the Duchess of Cambridge’s look.

Although not exact replicas, Lizzi is in the process of producing her own interpretations of Kate’ wedding veil wedding veils day and evening wedding dresses wedding dresses .

As most fashion followers will know, the new Duchess wore a white gown with lace sleeves and a train for the service, but later changed into a white gown with silver belt and fluffy cardigan for the evening; both designed by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen.

For Lizzi, the work has been painstaking to produce her beautiful day dress in duchess satin and evening dress in silk satin.

The day dress would cost £3,600 to buy at the Wedding Wardrobe and £2,500 for the evening dress. The little lace cardigan with sequins she has made to go with the evening dress costs £120.

Work on the evening dress took Lizzi three days to complete and work is ongoing on the day dress, but it is believed that this will have taken five or six days by the time it is finished.

Lizzi was inspired to create her own versions of these looks by the number of people asking if she would be following up on the Royal Wedding styles, as well as the sudden wave of demand for lace sleeves.

Although Lizzi sells bridal and bridesmaid dresses by different designers in her shop, she also creates bespoke work herself and is preparing to have to incorporate elements such as lace sleeves into some of her future gown work.

Lizzi, who has been running the Wedding Wardrobe for about a year, said: “I have found that it is particularly the sleeves people ask for, the lace sleeves. A lot of people now ask for straps as it is something different. We have followers on our Facebook page and everyone talks about it.

“Lace is quite trendy within wedding dresses at the moment.”

She continued: “These are our interpretations of the two dresses. Other designers are doing them for shops but we decided to do our own. I don’t know if a replica like this will be on trend but it catches people’s eyes and people might say ‘I want the top of this or the bottom of that.’ It also gives people the confidence that I can produce something from a picture.”

She said; “Catherine’s dresses were not what I thought they would be but I thought she looked like herself and not like she was being made to look regal. It was just enough without being over the top.”

Hats

It is not unusual to spot guests at modern weddings sporting everything from a few feathers on a comb to ornate, spiralled fascinators.

But since the Royal Wedding, where fascinator wearers were few and far between, it seems that the hat is back.

The headwear showcased at the Royal Wedding ranged from the sublime to the ugly, and some hats more than others have captured the public’s imagination.

Michelle O’Callaghan runs On Your Head Be It, in Billing Road, Northampton, creating, selling and hiring out hats, jewellery and accessories to shoppers.

Among the design choices at the business are pieces by Philip Treacy and Rachel Trevor Morgan, designers whose work was ubiquitous at the Royal Wedding.

Michelle said: “Since the Royal Wedding there has been an upsurge in hat wearing. We have had people ringing for something like Victoria Beckham wore, which was a pill box style.

I thought she looked lovely, although she could have smiled. We have had a lot of people say they want something like she had.”

She continued: “Philip Treacy was one of the prominent designers and he is someone whose work we have in the studio. A lot of people have said they want a little thing on the side of their head but also the disc hats could be seen at the Royal Wedding, lovely big hats.

“I think, like everything, fashion goes in a cycle and I think people are wanting a bit more of a statement and going for a hat or one of those head pieces.”
